One of the primary objectives of MPPA is to promote professional development and emphasize professional certification of public procurement practitioners. Effective public procurement is more important than ever because today's governments must provide more and better services with fewer dollars.
NIGP and the National Association of State Purchasing Officials (NASPO) have developed a comprehensive program that offers two levels of professional certification under the auspices of the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC): the Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) and the Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO).
MPPA regularly sponsors various NIGP seminars that include the basics of public purchasing, supervising and managing procurement staffs, using various procurement methods, contract administration, evaluating bids and proposals, as well as, other related procurement topics. These seminars are offered in an effort to enhance the professionalism and knowledge of MPPA members.
Furthermore, as members of the Maryland Public Purchasing Association, Inc., we endeavor to:
- Establish cooperative relationships among our members for the development of efficient purchasing methods and practices in the field of governmental and public institutional procurement; and
- Encourage maintenance of ethical standards in buying and selling; and
